A Message from the Area Commissioners:
A big THANK YOU to all cookie receivers and helpers for a job well done! The task was almost a 'normal' cookie pick-up for all of us. Besides distributing cookies, some media coverage—by CTV, Global, and The Now, who visited us on site at AMJ Terminal—helped alert the public that Girl Guide cookies are here. Thanks to Diamond for organizing the media support. We thank guiders, parents, and friends who learned how many cases of cookies their vehicles could hold. Tammy's car amazed us, taking 54 cases, two passengers, a first aid kit, shovel, and other supplies. Apparently her car fit up to 80 cases in previous years. Denise brought two vehicles, but was pleased to have her 108 cases fit into one truck. For fun, we'll share vehicle makes and how many cases they fit, when we start planning pick-ups for the next cookie campaign in the Fall. We wish everyone success and good times as you sell your cookies. Cindy & Gerry

1st Burnaby Pathfinders had a terrific time geocaching in Munday Park today.
They found 4 geocaches and learned all about using GPS devices for navigation. Geocaching is great for honing your observational skills and working as a team, plus there's the bonus of finding hidden 'treasure'! Not familiar with geocaching? It's easy to get started—all you need is a cellphone. With geocaches hidden all over the Lower Mainland (and across the world), you've probably walked right past a cache and never realized. For more information, check out geocaching.com With Spring in the air, this is a great time to introduce navigation and orienteering skills to your unit. The BC Girl Guides camping webpage has plenty of resources for games, activities, and crafts for all ages. |
