It's almost September! Are you ready for another amazing Guiding year?! Dust off your uniform and stock up on hand sanitizer (check with your DC about supplies provided by Area). Every unit and district has a checklist to gear up for unit meetings. For example: • Check your roster in Member Zone. Make sure all your guiders appear on it (as of September 1st for the new year). Do you have a treasurer to handle unified banking? Let your DC know if someone is missing. • Check your unit in ePACT and follow up about any missing health or emergency information. • Contact your unit parents and youth members. Let them know the day and time of your first meeting, where you will meet, and what to expect. Meeting outside? Dress for the weather and bring a mask. Remind everyone to do the self-assessment ahead of time. Give parents a way to contact a guider if anything comes up. • Check in with your meeting place. Is there a contract to send to National for signing? Do you need to arrange a payment? Do you need to request insurance documentation? Your DC can help with these issues. • Get comfortable with Girls First. The platform has had some updates over the summer, so take a look. • Plan some activities. The first meeting is a great time for get-to-know-you icebreaker activities, some general explanations for first-time members, and fun games. Start the conversation about planning for the year and organizing circles and patrols. • Read your Guiding emails. Lots of things are happening, so read The GuidePost, Whisper, and other GGC emails. Pencil those dates on your calendar so you and the girls don't miss an opportunity. • Check with your local Pathfinder and Ranger guiders. Unit Assistants lend helping hands, inspire girls, and help plan and lead activities. If you could use more help, reach out to these awesome teens. Of course, there are plenty of other things to do. But remember to get excited and use all your new skills with outdoor activities and virtual speakers. Let's have a terrific year!
