The 9th New Westminster Brownies had a 'tall and small' canoe day at Burnaby Lake. Each Brownie brought an adult to share their canoe. Guider (and canoe instructor) Trish taught everyone how to paddle forward and backward, how to stop, and how to change direction.
The Brownies played games to learn the parts of the canoe, basic water safety, and how to handle their canoe. Then they set out on the water, paddling, splashing, and playing Dragon Tag. It was an amazingly fun day for everyone! West Coast Area has a number of guiders with canoe certifications. Ask in your district or reach out to the Area Camping committee if you would like to plan a canoe day with your unit (Sparks through Rangers).
